The length of the finished motif must be twice as much as the height. For example if you use a 1" wide linen band, the length of the finished motif must be 2". Leave a small seam allowance to both ends.

I sewed a linen cord in between the stitched borders to decorate. Then I backstitched a border to both ends, also over the linen cord. Of course you can choose a wider motif to stitch so that it covers all the width of the linen band.

When you have sewn the first seam under the backstitches, continue sewing the upper seam. I changed the thread and used linen coloured sewing thread, because it matches the linen band. At the same time attach a ribbon or cord for hanging to the top left corner.
