Covering the tin, tutorial part 1 - Rasian päällystäminen, osa 1

This is part of the design Maisons de campagne by Tralala and I'll finish it as a tin cover. I started finishing today, so here are the first photos! The tin is also from Violarium, it's the tin with hinged lid.

Tämä kuvio on osa Tralalan Maisons de campagne -mallista ja päällystän sillä peltirasian. Aloitin päällystämisen tänään, niinpä tässä tulevat ensimmäiset kuvat! Peltirasia kuvassa on Violariumin rasia saranakannella.

I drew the form of the lid onto thick cardboard and cut it. It's exactly of the same size as the lid. Then using double-faced tape I taped a piece of wadding to the cardboard.

Piirsin kannen muodon paksulle pahville ja leikkasin sen irti. Pahvinpala on täsmälleen samankokoinen kuin kansi. Kiinnitin vanulevyn palasen pahviin kaksipuoleisella teipillä.

The stitched piece can be attached into cardboard/wadding with tape, but I prefer lacing with thread. This way it's easier to adjust and center the stitched piece. I usually start lacing like this, attaching lightly the corners and then lacing the sides tightly, as in the photo below.

Pistelyn voi kiinnittää pahviin/vanuun teipillä, mutta itse mieluummin ompelen kankaat takaa kiinni. Tällä tavalla kangasta on helpompi liikutella ja asetella keskelle pahvia samalla kun ompelee. Aloitan yleensä ompelun kiinnittämällä kulmat löysästi ja sen jälkeen ompelemalla sivut tiukasti paikoilleen, kuten kuvassa alapuolella.

These photos are not pretty, my lacing is usually a mess :) Nobody can see it when everything is finished... I lace the sides and then when the stitched piece is in the center and well attached, it's easy to tune and trim the corners so that they will be neat - from the right side :)

Nämä kuvat eivät ole kovin kauniita, ompelun tarkoitushan on pitää pistelty kappale hyvin kiinni :) Kukaan ei näe näitä valmiista töistä... Ompelen ensin sivut ja sitten kun kangas on hyvin paikoillaan ja keskellä pahvia, niin on helppo ommella kulmat tasaisiksi ja kauniiksi - oikealta puolelta katsottuna :)

The stitched piece is now attached into the cardboard/wadding and it's ready to be glued into the tin. I will continue finishing this another day and the photos will be added. I hope these instructions help! If you have questions, please send me an e-mail and I'll be happy to answer!
